Painted Myths: The Artists Seppo Hautaneimi and Robert Preston

Authors

Abstract

Mythology does not come to mind immediately, when looking at the works of Townsville artists Seppo Hautaneimi and Robert Preston. Neglecting stylistic individualities, both artists' paintings appear as abstract art, without any particular content, let alone a mythical one. Yet, in both cases, mythology forms a major item of the artists' statements. Especially in Preston's work, titles also often point to mythical references. The following article will try to show a connection between these apparently contradictory observations.
