Based on the 1985 Colin Roderick Lecture for the Foundation for Australian Literary Studies at James Cook University by Dorothy Green this monograph explores a theme that " literature and life are inextricably connected and that writer, reader and critic more than ever before need to combine to produce a 'humane literacy'."
