Too Real or not to Reel—A Decade of Directions in Australian Drama 1969—1978
Abstract
In this paper Elizabeth Perkins engages in a commentary of Australian drame between 1969 and 1978. To accomplish such a survey stage plays are divided into four categories: domestic plays, historical plays, abstract plays or fables, and entertainments. At the same time the article draws attention to the debate in which some playwrights are engaged, as to the relative merits of realistic or naturalistic plays on the one hand, and of antinaturalistic, impressionistic, surrealistic plays on the other.
