Love and Hate in Romeo and Juliet
Abstract
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy of young love. The opening chorus explains that the lovers are "star-crossed"; their love is "death-marked"; and their destruction is
"misadventured". They are foredoomed to an evil destiny. But their tragedy and their love are clearly and carefully set in a wider, social framework.
