Abstract

Based on the 1992 Colin Roderick Lecture for the Foundation for Australian Literary Studies at James Cook University by Michael Wilding, this monograph examines Henry Lawson's Short Stories, Joseph Furphy's Such is Life and Christina Stead's Seven Poor Men of Sydney. Wilding looks at influences on the writers and how they dealt with political, social and sexual issues while writing in or about late 1800's Australia.
