Rudi Krausman (ed): Recent German Poetry
Abstract
Rudi Krausmann led): Recent German Poetry, selected and translated by
Rudi Krausmann, assisted by John Tranter and Olaf Reinhardt, bilingual,
with an introductory essay by Olaf Reinhardt. Published by Aspect Publications,
with the assistance of the Goethe Institutes of Australia, Sydney,
1977. 93pp. No price given.
This publication, printed by South Head Press in a format similar to the well-known magazine Poetry Australia, is a valuable addition to recent German poetry available in English translation. More than thirty poets, with forty-four poems, are presented; not to mention further examples in the Introduction. Geographically, the net has been widely cast; the poets come from both the Federal and Democratic Republics, as well as from Austria and Switzerland, and include expatriates such as Erich Fried, long in London, and Hartmut Fritsche, in Paris. There appears to be a clustering in Munich and Berlin. The poets' ages range from about 30 to 75 years
