Open Access Policy

The Journal of Research and Engagement (JRE) is committed to making research outputs freely available to everyone, ensuring that knowledge can be shared without barriers. As a Platinum Open Access journal, JRE does not charge any fees to authors or readers, guaranteeing that all accepted articles are immediately and permanently accessible free of charge.

JRE’s Open Access principles are supported by James Cook University through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. This commitment reflects our belief in the transformative power of research and the importance of equitable access to knowledge.

What Does Open Access Mean at JRE?

JRE ensures that academic research is:

  • Freely Accessible Online: Articles are published digitally and made available without delay or embargo.
  • Free of Charge: No fees are charged to readers or authors.
  • Available for Sharing and Distribution: Articles can be shared and distributed under the terms of JRE's licensing policies.

For detailed licensing information, including re-use rights and restrictions, please refer to our Licensing, Rights, and Permissions page.

Preservation and Accessibility

JRE ensures the long-term preservation of its content through its participation in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN). This guarantees perpetual access to all published articles, safeguarding the journal's content against loss or obsolescence. For more details on archiving and repository practices, visit our Repository Policy page.

Author Self-Archiving

JRE supports the self-archiving of articles. Authors are encouraged to share their work in institutional repositories, personal websites, or other Open Access platforms in accordance with our repository and licensing policies. Authors can self-archive the final Version of Record (VOR) to ensure accurate citation and increased visibility of their work.

Commitment to Open Access

Through its Open Access initiatives, JRE aims to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge globally while promoting equity and inclusion in academic publishing. Readers, authors, and institutions are invited to engage with our content and benefit from unrestricted access to high-quality research.
